Apsa Group in Colombia makes plastic injection molded parts for the automotive industry and beyond. It was formed in 2007, when two Colombian firms with forty years’ experienced joined with a Canadian firm to produce original equipment parts for leading car companies. Since then, Apsa has grown to become a point of reference in the industry. Apsa Group has also been selected to receive the BID Quality Crown Award for 2015.
Colombia has seen a recent uptick in foreign visitors, and looking at its three largest cities, it is easy to see why. Bogotá, the capital of the Republic of Colombia, is home to the Botero Museum located in a magnificent colonial-style building where the visitor can enjoy works by the famous painter and sculptor. One can also take the cable car to the Cerro de Monserrate and enjoy a wonderful view of the city.
Medellín, which was named in 2013 as the most innovative city in the world by the Wall Street Journal, also has interesting attractions for tourists who want to come to the capital city of the department of Antioquia. Here, one can ride another gondola lift system called Metrocable, widely considered to be the first cable propelled public transport system in world with a fixed service schedule. It stretches for more than 9 kilometres while providing spectacular views to more than 30,000 people traveling to far flung areas of Medellín. Just outside the city is the "Peñol de Guatupé,” a monolith with a spiral staircase of 649 steps where the intrepid are rewarded with incredible views of the nearby lake.
The city of Calí, Colombia’s third largest, is known as the City of the Rumba. Visitors there should be sure to see the statue of Sebastián de Belalcázar, the 16th century historic district and the serene riverfront. Other sites not to be missed are one of South America’s finest zoos, an excellent aquarium, and the Museo Aéreo Fénix with its wide collection of vehicles and aircraft.
Apsa Group is located just outside of Bogotá, and does more than just manufacture car parts. Because automobile models change continuously, Apsa also has specialized technical development groups which work hand-in-hand with customers to create fresh potential applications, formulate new product concepts, and carry out the vision of cutting edge design.
The process requires full integration from concept to design, engineering, tooling and final part production. Talented and trained personnel use the most current technology and equipment in order to ensure quality and economy for customers. The result is the establishment of clients who become partners in permanent and satisfactory relationships. © 2015 Javi Zam / R.M
Apsa Group has a written Quality Policy, which states in part that they are committed to "continuously improve our production processes, through the reduction of defects and waste, supported by the skills and commitment of our employees through a constant attitude of teamwork in order to meet the needs and expectations of our customers." These are indeed key components of the QC100 Quality Plan promoted by BID for 30 years, and the BID Committee took special note of the prominence that Apsa places on Continuous Quality Improvement in its corporate culture.
The automotive industry is famously competitive, and Apsa has been able to thrive by constant updating and technological innovation, aimed to continuously improve performance and consistently achieve product excellence.
Octavio Troya, spokesman for the company and a member of the International Society of Facilitators, pointed out that “the main motivation among our partners and the established mission of our company is to achieve customer satisfaction, because we want to be ‘builders of credibility.’ We believe that by acting responsibly and with the speed required by our commitments we will achieve sustained growth through diversification and constant innovation.”
Third parties have taken notice, also. Apsa has achieved ISO 9001 Quality Certification and also meets ISO / TS Standard 16949, as well as certification under the Quality System standard set by GM as the quality benchmark for suppliers worldwide. Troya attributes this success to the unswerving dedication of employees who receive constant recurrent training in order to reduce quality incidents. Because of its commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer service, Apsa Group has been selected to receive the BID Quality Crown Award for 2015 at the convention in London.
