Located between the countries of Benin and Ghana along the southern coast of West Africa, Togo is a unitary democratic republic with a population of 7.6 million residents that is known for its beautiful beaches lined with palm trees, its picturesque villages perched at the top of hills, and its cultural landscape of Koutammakou, home of the traditional mud-tower houses of the Batammariba people. But Togo is more than just romantic pastoral life and pristine coastal vistas. This French-speaking country is also a growing force in the region’s economic picture, and one of the world’s top-five producers of phosphates, an essential ingredient in fertilizers and other industrial products.

Foreign investments in Togo typically are directed toward phosphates and agriculture, where cash crops such as tobacco, coffee, and cocoa reign supreme as attractors of international money. However, a new breed of smart investor is directing dollars to more strategic and long-term investments. Togo itself has large untapped markets and pent-up demand for domestically sourced goods and services. These market-holes, as it were, are ripe for filling, and only capital and savvy business expertise are needed to make it happen. For instance, in April of 2015, a group of Chinese investors financed the construction of a new motorcycle assembly plant in Togo, an investment that should prove to be profitable for years and years into the future.

In fact, there are many new businesses in Togo, like the above motorcycle plant, that are filling important market gaps, and satisfying demand. The problem, like in many young and developing market economies, is a lack of experience and expertise when it comes to starting new businesses. In Lomé, the capital and largest city of Togo, there exists a group of experienced professionals working together to overcome this lack. To help new businesses get off the ground in an auspicious fashion, their company, Syl Consult, has been established to lead the market in the the area of entrepreneurial and business management consulting.

The process of starting a new company is complex, and requires sophisticated knowledge in a number of different areas. For one, the creation of a sound and strategic business plan is essential, and this means performing in-depth research of the market conditions into which a new business is entering. Syl Consult, with its team of experts, has the skills to build out and form a company from conception to opening to getting past that fragile first year. Whether a would-be entrepreneur or investor needs assistance in sales, project management, team building, human resources, or bookkeeping, Syl Consult has just the personnel to help. As it is located in Lomé, the economic hub of Togo, Syl Consult is well-positioned to work with new companies all over the country, and in fact it has clients located in every region of Togo.

Syl Consult’s services include management training, advisory support of entrepreneurs, leadership training, training in accounting, market research, sales strategy consulting, and much more. It maintains its quality through the close maintenance and creation of its company culture, an incredibly important component of a business that relies solely on its people for the production of value for its clients. Its core principles include confidentiality, integrity, creativity, respect, and upholding a “culture of results,” meaning that the job isn’t over until the client sees the results they were looking for.
Other services that company provides include training in entrepreneurship, assistance in the preparation of a business plan, setting up financial record keeping and designing development projects, assistance in finding financing and coaching in how to work with banks, performing financial analysis and impact studies, business diagnostics, and corporate development.

What Syl Consult does for its country and its city is difficult to quantify. It is, without a doubt, noble work to spread the power and potential of skills and knowledge, and for every person that Syl Consult trains, the knowledge is spread even further, like a tree sprouting forth seeds of growth. For its contributions to Togo’s growing business landscape, its maintenance of a client-driven company culture, and its impressive track record of results, Cabinet Syl Consul-Togo has been selected to receive the 2016 BID International Quality Award, a global recognition of enterprises and organizations that uphold the core principles of Quality Culture.
