The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, seven iconic pieces of architectural brilliance, have become, by due right, objects of legend. The constructuction of these magnificent structures was the christening point in the lives of the ancient empires that built them. The Pyramids of Giza and the Lighthouse of Alexandria for the Egyptians, the Colossus of Rhodes and the statue of Zeus at Olympia for the Greeks, or the Hanging Gardens of Babylon for the Babylonian and Semitic tribes all became proof of their respective builders’ degree of engineering and architectural knowledge, and served as contemporary symbols of dominance over other cultures of their time.
That is the true power of architecture. In a sense, this artform can be more than the mere design, planning, and construction of physical structures, whether the objective be aesthetic form or utilitarian function: architecture can be a form of cultural expression, a testament to the zeitgeist of a particular time and place. In the Egyptian Pyramids and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon we see three-dimensional cultural documents attesting to the the values, politics, and philosophical beliefs of entire civilizations at a given point in history.
Following this proud tradition, the modern Russian architectural studio Oleg Klodt Architectural Bureau has become, in recent years, a paragon of quality and excellence, proving that today Russia is a powerhouse of design and engineering.
Founded in 2000 with the aim of designing interiors to the highest standards—both for private homes and for businesses and organizations—the studio goes much further than selecting furniture and painting walls. Oleg Klodt’s portfolio includes scores of projects for private apartments and homes, hotel interiors, restaurants, and retail stores that take the art of interior design to its logical extremes, crafting the spaces in which people live, work, and shop with the utmost attention to detail.
Both for its broad range of clients, and for its eclectic approach to each project, this Russian studio has proven to be one of the most flexible, efficient, and innovative architectural bureaus, retaining the creative talents and skills of its tandem of designers—Oleg Klodt and Anna Agapova—as the hallmark of its brand. © 2016 D.
